Exploring the Taino: Origins, Culture with Dr. Wilfredo Nieves

The Indigenous People (Tainos) of Borikén (Puerto Rico)-Before the European Encounter

The first people of Borikén, what the indigenous people called Puerto Rico, will be discussed.  Who they were, how they arrived, the way they lived and their culture and beliefs will be highlighted.  The time period from their arrival to Borikén until their first encounter with Europeans will be covered.

$10.00 – Adult: includes admission to Nowashe Village
$5.00 – Student: Ages 6+, college students with ID, includes admission to Nowashe Village

About the Presenter

Dr. Wilfredo Nieves, President Emeritus of Capital Community College, retired after 18 years of service as a community college president in Connecticut, eight of them at Capital.  Dr. Nieves came to Capital in July 2010 after serving as President of Middlesex Community College in Middletown.  He also served as Interim President of Naugatuck Valley Community College in Waterbury.
